-A blog is something private, and then again it is not, it is something shared, a moment or a thought, it need not be read by any to be needed by just one, this is my diary, my journal... this is my blog.-

I pulled my 30 gallon aquarium from the closet to see how it was going to fit into this scene that I can not get out of my head. Right now it looks really bad. I am not satisfied with how it is, way too clutteed for me, but some ideas have been sufacing. I am pretty positive that I wont be bringing home a lizard or new pet of any kind. I just do not think it is the right thing to do, although I have really wanted one for a long time now, researching all I can find on reptiles. My first love is the Beardie and I know having one is impossible. The Horned Mountain Dragons were my second choice. They get big too and too big for us to have here. My only option would be a Gecko and although I think they are extremely beautiful and the idea is extremely tempting, I have issues with the whole idea of selling these creatures at pet stores, the demand only encourages the breeding and the truth is a lizard's home is in the wild. All of that really nags at me along with having to feed them other live creatures. They are completely fascinating to me and it's difficult to NOT do, but I have to say no to this. Instead I'm going to put some thought and energy into building a Terrarium with a few unique plants. Amost everything I have read about them include an ecosystem for a reptile, but mine will not be intended for this purpose.

Stuff for my Terrarium:

Gravel, Moss, Charcoal, Sterile Potting Soil, Waterfall, Backing, Decor, like rocks and driftwood.

Plants:

Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena) but not for my Terrarium. Carnivorous like a Venus Fly Trap and maybe something a little more aquatic to keep near the water fall. The Carnivorous plants like the water and lots of light. African Violets and Ferns.

Tacca chantrierei (Black Bat Flower) likes high humidity but low light. This is very cool and really tall so on one hand it would be worth building the ecosystem to suit it and add other plants accordingly, however this is large plant and may grow too tall for my tank. I like this one as well as an Orchid. Even if I can not have one of these in my Terrarium, maybe just in a pot at my desk. The bloom looks like a bat with long whiskers!

Ludisia discolor (Jewel Orchid ) also likes low to medium light. These are not as outstanding as the type of Orchid I sent to Mom. They are shorter, staying closer to the floor of the Terrarium, but they are rich in green.

So on my wish list for house plants, besides creating this Terrarium, I would love an Orchid, Bonsai Tree, Lucky Bamboo and Tacca chantrierei (Black Bat Flower).
