I grew up in a small town located in the south eastern part of Ohio. Some of the fun things I did while growing up consisted of sleigh riding in the winter, bike riding and swimming in the creek during the summer, and bailing hay at fair time for some extra spending money. I was also in 4H all of my school years from the age of 9. From fifth grade until senior graduation, I played drums in the band, and carried a tri set during football season in high school. It was during those years that writing became a passion for me, and in those same years when my creative passion would die. For a lot of reasons, including political, biblical and social, I chose other directions rather than writing.
In 1987, I met, became engaged to, and married my husband. Two months after our wedding, we were pregnant with our daughter Ashley Nichole. All these years I have been a dedicated wife and mother. There are many precious memories that will be with me until the end of my days. My husband made a career of the USN and we moved on an average of every two years. He is out of the military now and has a management position with a wonderful company here in Ohio. Our daughter has followed in her Dad's footsteps and is currently active duty in the United States Navy.
In 1999, we bought our first computer and something came alive in me again that I had forgotten all about. My love for computers and my love for writing sparked, and once again my passions were ignited.
In the years that I have been actively participating online, I have made numerous friends, countless mistakes and even caused myself embarrassment, not to mention plenty of heart ache and heartbreak. The one factor that remains today is online communication provides a wealth of knowledge.
My experience as a web site evaluator includes reviewing sites for various programs since 2003. My knowledge of HTML is self taught, and I have been learning since 1999. From 2003 - 2006 I authored a monthly article for LitKorner at NetNacs! and for a number of years I was Senior Moderator/Writing Coordinator at Poetry Galore. Some of my writings are still listed there. I advocate for literacy, education, the needs of the poor, the sick, the homeless and above all tolerance for everyone. My topics are chosen based on cause and effect, and due to my belief there are connections between these issues. I also believe that as a web site owner, I have a responsibility to help make the web a better a place.
Why do I have a web site? In part, my web space is an outlet as most of us with personal sites commonly state. It is an example of something that one can achieve with little or no page writing skill. I also believe that each of us has a story to tell. Our experiences are lessons and when we share our works with others, we are sharing knowledge. The internet will always remain a group effort. And the following pages are my efforts shared.
Today I author two main sites, Cynthia's Escape and Giving Words. With these pages I can share my favorite recipes, my personal poetry, writing challenges, articles, literacy tips, graphics that I make, art by me and my family, and some of our photographs. My hobbies off line include gardening indoors and out, camping, sketching, doing graphics in paint shop, reading books, listening to music, watching movies, and sometimes a craft project. My obsessions are my family, my pets, and raising awareness for literacy, the environment, poverty, disease and the homeless.
Photo to the right is my family (Brett, Cindy and Ashley 2005) acting foolish in front of the web cam. I remember this day well. Ashley was still at home, a senior in high school, and we were all living in Tacoma, Washington on the Air Force Base. We had a beautiful view of Mt. Raineer.1999:I began authoring my content.
March 2002:The site Cynthia's Escape or Cynthiasescape.com is created.
March 2006:Giving Words Award Program is introduced to promote, encourage and to raise awareness for literacy. This is accomplished by sharing and awarding creative writing.
March 2007:A new site name and new site url is introduced for Giving Words. Much of the writing content of Cynthia's Escape becomes the content for Giving Words. Cynthia's Escape will continue as my personal site.
